Rougui 肉桂 - Banyan Yancha
Banyan 半岩 literally means “middle rock”, and refers to the position of the tea trees, that grow on rocks situated at the outskirts of Wuyishan park, as opposed to Zhengyan 正岩, the trees growing in the very heart of Wuyishan, and Zhoucha 州茶, growing far away from the park.
Banyan area keeps the peculiar minerality of yancha, rock teas, but it is here much milder and enriched by a great botanic diversity: gardenias, magnolias, and dahlias mingle with fruity notes of ripe peaches and apricots. This surprising complexity is also due to the fact that the tea plants do not only grow among rocks, but they often share the rich soil with fruit trees, absorbing their nutrients.
Rougui is one of the most famous cultivars, thanks to its iconic spicy note that reminds the sweetness of cinnamon, which gives it its Chinese name. This Banyan Rougui is the perfect tea for those who wish to be charmed by the world of rock teas, waiting to venture closer to the core of Wuyishan park.

Format: 50 gr. signature package
Storage: the leaves can be stored in their original package or in ceramic vases. Avoid heat, light, and moisture.
Tea/Water Ratio: 1 gr. of tea every 25 ml of water
Rinse: before starting the infusion, rinse the leaves with a very fast washing in order to let them rehydrate and release a more intense brew. Gently cover the leaves with boiling water and pour it after a few seconds.
Brewing time: Begin with a 10-second brew. Increase with each successive brew as needed.

Brewing: put the tea leaves in room temperature water and steep for 7-8 hours. Filter the liquor and drink within 24 hours.

In Italy we ship through BRT. In Europe and US we ship through DHL Express courier or UPS; For shipments in Italy, you can select a BRT point where to collect your package, for shipments Europe you can choose a UPS point, and for the US you can choose a DHL service point. In Asia we use EMS.

Rock teas, in Chinese 岩茶 Yancha, are wulong teas that grow in the very heart of Wuyishan park, Fujian province.
This is a very humid area, whose main feature lies in its steep rocky hills: this kind of soil was praised by Lu Yu during Tang dynasty (618-907) as the most suitable to grow tea.
Rhymes of flavors
Wuyishan tea trees, and Fujian tea trees in general, are notably smaller than those of Yunnan. These bushes dig their roots in the rich rocky soils, and the hot sun rays warm the leaves during daytime, allowing them to absorb a peculiar mineral note, in Chinese 岩韵 Yanyun. Each rock tea has its own specific minerality, which can be intense and daring in the mouth, smooth and hidden in the aftertaste, or lingering in the palate and accompanied by a surprising floral bouquet.
