The art of Jasmine tea
a passion for fragrance
Our Jasmine scented teas are produced by Chen Weiwei 陈威威. Previously an accountant, as he fell in love with his wife he also got fascinated by her family's business in the tea industry. Chen's family tree may not have originated from generations of tea masters, but his passion for tea quickly made him one of the most innovative producers of flower tea. He experimented with various flowers and ultimately restored jasmine tea's long-lost, rightful reputation as a premium tea.
the perfect jasmine
Jasmine is known in China as the prince of flowers: the specific type of jasmine used for scenting tea is called Shuangban Moli 双瓣茉莉 (Jasminum sambac). Only the whiter and plumper blossoms are selected, and picked by hand right before they bloom. A new batch of jasmine flowers is mixed with the same tea leaves for up to 7 times, until they no longer release their alluring scent. Tea masters say that tea keeps jasmine (茉莉 mòlì) alive long after it withers, so that even when they are separated, they never truly lose each other (末离 mò lí).
Fuzhou is renowned as the best city in China for the production of high quality flower teas. Every summer, when the flower fields are at their peak and a fresh harvest is about to release its all-encompassing scent in the tea liquor, our Vivian pays a visit. This is why our newest floral tea selections are always available in the fall, following the completion of the scenting process.
