2022 Pu'er Shengpu, Ancient Trees Stone-pressed cake
This beautiful cake is composed of long, narrow, and fleshy leaves, stone-pressed in a compact round shape, tight yet so seemingly soft and gentle.
A very distinct harvest, 2022 pu'er teas show great resemblance in character and appearance to more mature leaves except that, if over-brewed, an unmerciful astringency reminds us of their young age.
The numerous full buds are covered in a snow of pure white fluff, which dances in the bright liquor with the first brews. When sipping the rich liquor, the same velvety and oily texture of our Nannuo Shengpu caresses the palate, yet it is here much fresher, although the dry leaves still possess the typical ripe apricot fragrance that belongs to and identifies both our mountains. Each new infusion reveals ever more complex fragrances, with some resemblance to that of white blossoms, such as elderflower, lily of the valley, and daisy. The overwhelming and persistent aftertaste has a delicate balsamic twist of aromatic herbs: a feeble bouquet of rosemary, sage, and basil, that comes silently from the throat to the palate.
This tea is one of the finest examples of the beautiful tea category to which it belongs. This harvest is perfect to be appreciated as fresh, or to be stored, waiting to discover if our expectations of the leaves improving in beauty and complexity will be realized.
