Generations of Zhengshan Xiaozhong

The pride of Tongmuguan

Wu Chongfa and his wife Chen Chunfeng take care of the precious wild tea trees of the xiaozhong variety that grow among forests and rivers in the historical Tongmuguan. You see them here in the photo posing with our Vivian, with some of their trees in the backgound. Their family have been producing Zhengshan Xiaozhong for generations and their trees are now even more worthy of preservation since it is formally forbidden to plant new ones.

Crafted to perfection

They only work with the best material, harvesting once a year only in April. The leaves are carefully hand-processed in the traditional wooden houses, where the third floor is dedicated to the final drying of the tea leaves. Their Zhengshan Xiaozhong is winner of many gold medal awards in specific competitions, so many awards that they eventually stopped competing.

Their trees share the terroir of Wuyishan park, growing on steep slopes up to an altitude of 1.600mt asl.

The Laocong - "old trees" - living here have a taste outcome that reflects the local terroir while other cultivars on their lands have such a beautiful fruity fragrance that they decided to give it the name of "Litchee", the sweetest of fruits, loved by the Emperor favourite concubine Yangyu Huan.
