Land, people and time: these are the components of terroir, and the foundation of every taste we love lies in their combination.

In the Xishuangbanna area alone there are 13 minorities, each mountain was wildly isolated by the others, thus preserving the culture of the people that have inhabited it through the centuries and that developed their unique tea culture: so each of the tea we drink today from the most important terroir of the world descent from these unique cultures, that are the real bone of the taste we love.

This workshop is intended as a virtual tour in the land we love: we will study the most important teas of Xishuangbanna, we will connect them with their ancestral origin and contemporary culture, and of course taste some of their most representative teas.

We'll taste Sheng and Shu Pu'er from:

  1. Laoman'e 老曼娥生普, Bulang people: The village of Laoman’e is a buddhist landmark in the Bulang mountain, between China and Myanmar; it is a rare ancient physical trace in the pu'er tea history, dating back over 1000 years.
  2. Banpen 班盆生普(有茶样), Lahu people: the Lahu of Banpen are part of Bulang mountain, and still so distinguished by other people living in the same area: they keep their tea trees in the most original way, and it will be interesting to find out together how the flavour differs from others.
  3. Liehushan 猎虎山, Yao people: the Yao are an ancient minority who migrated through mountains and valleys, and still preserve the old way of tea as food, with an unbreakable tie with the tea leaves.
  4. Nannuoshan 南糯山, Hani people: the Hani people in Nannuo keep an 800-year tree that can be dated back 58 generations, in a surprising cultural continuity., that is even more surprising, giving the wilderness of their native area.
  5. Mahei 麻黑, Han people: walking the alleys in the village of Mahei is still possible to see old stone steles left by the first Han migrants that during early Qing dynasty established the great era of the Yiwu tea.
