2022 Huangpian Shengpu, Ancient Trees pu'er tea - Stone-pressed cake
Huángpiàn 黄片 literally means yellow leaf, in allusion to the shades of golden yellow that can be admired in the variegated range of color of this cake, made up of the third and fourth leaves of our Ancient tea trees.
Year after year, it proves to be a very multi-faceted tea, whose beautiful leaf color slowly varies from the delicate tones of green and yellow, to the darker shades of brown and red, while a silver shimmer signals the presence of few rare buds.
After growing freely in a shaded undergrowth of the deep forest in Lunan mountain, these mature leaves flower in the warmth of the teapot and their distinguishing characters are at once perceived: this tea differs from its early-harvest counterpart in having a surprisingly sugary sweetness, neat yet delicate, with a very intense apricot smell, made even more complex by a slight saltiness in fragrance.
The typical mouth-puckering sensation of this type of harvest, especially when young, is here extremely soft and gentle. The aftertaste gives space to its fruity aroma, with fragrant notes of vanilla, while the wet leaves, whose elasticity is proof of the nutrition of the centuries-old trees they come from, gently disclose the multiple shades of green and yellow from which the cake takes its name.
