2018 Laobanzhang Shengpu 老班章 - King of Pu'er
Lǎobānzhāng 老班章 is one of the most famous areas for the production of pu'er tea thanks to the richness in Ancient Tea Trees of a typically bitter flavor, with the sweetest aftertaste and a strong cháqì 茶气, the feeling of warmth that fills the whole body after sipping the golden liquor.
It is a blend between big trees and ancient trees: the century-old tea trees that nourished these leaves give them a delicate taste of aging, with complex notes of tobacco and leather, sweetened by a mellow aftertaste of jujubes. This Shengpu was prized with the gold award at the 2007 China International Tea Industry Expo in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan.
The high quality of this area gained it the title of King of Pu'er: with a decise and strong character, bitter at the first sip and sweet in the aftertaste, Laobanzhang is one of the most complex teas, and releases a full range of flavors at each infusion. To fully appreciate the multiple hues of Laobanzhang, try also our selected 2021 Laobanzhang Shengpu, and let the leaves guide you through the hidden roads of Laobanzhang village.

It’s taste fruity, herbal, very sweet and with a very good minerality.
The liquor is thick and oily with a gold color.
A refreshing and warming body sensation.
If somebody hesitates about if it is a Lao Bang Zhang or not, I say it is one of the tastiest shengs I have had in my life. Worth every penny.
This sheng pu from laobanzhang shows all the complexity of an extraordinary territory, the march of fruity, undergrowth, autumn scents brings us back to the warm situations of a mountain village, the chaqi combined with the savory, slightly bitter tension that evolves towards sweet, honeyed textures and candied fruit mark a sip in which the memory and admiration of these lands is renewed every time.
Dear Kevin, we are glad to read your review, and happy to see all the complexity of this fantastic area developed in your cup and so gently described by your words. We just want to taste some more, to draw further tasting journeys :-)
We love this tea. Structure, balance, worthy.
Hi Stephen, thank you very much for your kind review: this tea has become one of our persona favourites since the first sip, with its balance and powerful chaqi; it reconciles us and our guests with the present moment, in any given day.
