This pure white tea is made up of the silver buds and the first two apical leaves of Dabai cultivar, which open in the teapot during the infusion, blooming like a candid peony - 牡丹 mǔdān in Chinese.
Baimudan was originally born from the necessity to use the apical leaves, after picking the first newborn buds for the imperial Baihaoyinzhen. Its flavor is indeed richer than the Silver Needle variety, and the infusion is darker in color, with warm golden tones. The dry leaves have an intense and pleasant nutty scent, reminiscent of an autumn forest: this warm hue can also be found in the taste of the liquor, together with sweet notes of ripe peaches, chamomile and honey, and the typical freshness of the buds, mellow and long-lasting.
