Cup - Dajuan Art

This delicate cup is pure white in color, soft and comfortable to use. Its protruding edge gives a soft and mellow feeling when drinking a newly brewed tea, that almost feels like a gentle kiss.  

This peculiar shape is inspired by the famous painting An Elegant Party (文会图 Wén huì tú), made by Emperor Song Huizong in 1100, Song Dynasty (960-1279). The painting represents a banquet between officials, and each guest has his own valet, who is in charge of preparing and serving tea. At that time, there was only green tea, which was powdered and mixed with water in order to obtain a uniform and dense liquor, sipped using pure ceramic bowls. This painting is a valuable record of the way tea was prepared and served in Song Dynasty, and this pure cup is a way to connect with the ancient way of brewing and tasting tea.

In his first youth, he moved from his hometown in Hebei, nearby the famous ceramic district of Xingtai, to Jingdezhen, where he studied with the best masters to learn the traditional porcelain technique, that he combines with an innovative way to treat the raw materials.
His parents tried to get him a stable job in the government, but nothing can keep him away from clay and travels.

This cup is a co-design between Da Juan and Eastern Leaves, to find the best match possible between the material's formula, the shapes, and our leaves.
