China's oldest porcelain production region is located in the province of Jiangxi, in the city of Jingdezhen. The Tang dynasty (618-907 A.D.) saw the local artisans achieve the pinnacle of their craft, but these ceramics date back to the ancient Han dynasty (202-220 B.C.).
As an imperial honor bestowed upon the city of Changnan by Emperor Song Huizong, the district was called Jingdezhen and designated as the Imperial Kiln.
