The New Six Mountains of Yunnan tea - Milan, February 15 2025, 10 am
- Description
- Location
In Yunnan tea-culture there are two groups of mountains, classified according to their appearance in the Imperial chronicles: the Six Ancient mountains, whose tea first reached the Imperial court, and the Six New Mountains that, due to their wilder geographical location further isolated by the great Mekong river, reached the northern and eastern side of the Empire only later on in history.
Interestingly, Pu’er tea originated in these New Mountains that surround Menghai valley: they gift us with the richest teas from lush forests and environments, rich in flavours and Qi, with a great potential for ageing generation after generation.
With this tasting event we bring to light some of the most important tea locations in Yunnan, not only for pu'er tea but also for white and red teas. Many of them have had a recent rediscovery, after being isolated in their peaks and basins, protected through the centuries by the culture of the ethnic groups that have kept alive the tea culture in their daily life.
During this event we will explore their history and evolution, until present times, tasting together the following teas:
- Bada mountain
- Bulang mountain
- Jingmai mountain
- Nannuo mountain
- Mengsong mountain
- Nanqiao mountain
The teas we present are all important leaves for the whole landscape of this area, not limited to pu'er sheng but also including pu'er shu, white and red tea, and it is rare to have such an horizontal selection that goes deeper into the complexity of this charming and still wild areas.
